HISTORY IS HAPPENING, AND WE WANT THE YOUTH TO WRITE IT
Read About This (RAT) is an independent youth media website dedicated to online journalism and feature writing. We are a collective of independent and emerging writers with a passion for storytelling. We seek out interesting stories and ideas from around the corner and around the world.
In a post-truth age of alternative facts, we strive to practice slow journalism that tells vivid and original stories about issues that matter, particularly to young Australians.
Our site covers a number of areas that are all thematically categorised. We are not bound by geography because we believe that the best stories and ideas transcend both place and time.
- People – For profiles, interviews and stories all about people.
- Power – For stories involving power structures, be they political, social or economic.
- Arts – For stories, reviews and interviews for all things arts.
- Science – For stories on science, technology and the environment.
- Perspective – For commentary, debate and personal experience.
In today’s world experience is increasingly becoming a pre-requisite for graduate employment and it’s often hard to catch a break. Furthermore, getting youth voices heard above the fray in the deliberative democratic process is increasingly difficult. That’s where we come in. RAT acts as a platform where young emerging journalists or citizen writers can establish their voice and gain experience in participating in an online publication.
We want RAT to be the training ground for budding journalists and writers to find their feet. Interested in joining the team? Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with a very brief CV and cover letter telling us who you are, and our team will get back to you as soon as possible.
At the moment we are non-financial and run on the smell of an oily intern…just kidding, exploitation is bad. But seriously we have a very small team of dedicated individuals volunteering their time to make this project happen. We are hoping in the near future we can accept donations and financial support and pay those who contribute to our site. For the time being, please like our articles, leave us comments, respond to our polls, and share our work on Facebook, Twitter and whatever other social media you can think of.
